Abstract | Entrepreneurship is the defining characteristic of economic change and development. it is, as the mainstream economic theory presumes, the most exalted expression of an individual's self-interest, talent, and self-esteem as well as of the structural institutionalization, organization, and dynamism of productive and distributive superstructures. However, despite the hypothetical separation between entrepreneurship and capital, the fusion of the two is inevitable. Dialectically, the 'destructive creation' process underlies the entrepreneurial behavior. While, quite contrarily, the 'creative destruction' paradigm of Joseph A. Schumpeter supposes a positivist and optimist transformation of capitalism via innovative enterprise which, as a matter of fact, remains contingent upon the actual character of the economy and many other socio-psychological factors. Based on literature survey and observation, this paper discusses the entrepreneurial phenomenon in an ideological context, describes the contingent factors, and argues for an inclusive and socially distributed incidence of functional entrepreneurship sans the restrictions and constraints of social, political, and economic environment. |
